Story Behind.

Different films got different themes and feelings,

and the promotion items have the requirement to follow it.

Sadly, the typeface of many films were set without effort 

and I tended to use this chance to redesign one of my favourite films. 

Other than the trailer, I think the poster and graphic from a film has public's first impression, but seems that not every production house didn't put equal effort on trailer and graphic like typeface. 

In this project, I chose The Martian as my target of redesigning as the original Chinese and English display typeface was not really matching the theme and feeling to me.

As a space movie, the typeface is set to be more futuristic. 

Using straight and geometrical shape, it fits the feeling from the spacecraft and spacesuit.

There are different parts that take reference on the elements from the film directly

to make the typeface matches the film even more.

Other than the abstract touch on the typeface,

I added texture and symbolic graphic to enhance the impact of the typography.

The upper part are embedded with the galaxy-like texture, 

and the curve line are the symbol of the planet surface as the shape of mars.

Adaptation

Adapting the typeface and graphic to different promotion items to test out the effect of using my typeface over the old one as the typeface didn't just use independently, but using with film screenshot and graphic.
